Ladyboy
Ladyboy: from man to woman, a fine line
Ladyboy is a term used in Thailand that falls into the category of transgender. Ladyboys are men who wish to be allowed to express their femininity outwardly. Many men feel the desire to identify with a woman. This desire can already develop at a very young age. Little boys of perhaps 5 or 6 can quite possibly feel the urge to be a little girl instead. The wish becomes more pronounced as they grow older. A wish that sooner or later you're forced to come to terms with. There are men who have no problem showing their femininity outwardly. One man likes to wear makeup and usually enjoys wearing women's clothes now and then. But there are men who want to be seen as a complete woman in every situation and by society. To do that, though, these men have to invest a great deal of strength and work in the transition to womanhood. Smaller procedures such as breast augmentation, removal of the Adam's apple or hormone treatment are part of the transition to a woman, while gender reassignment surgery is a very risky procedure. But the men accept all of this in order to be able to lead a happy and fulfilled life afterwards.
The role and acceptance in society today
Especially in countries where Buddhist culture is at home, ladyboys, transgender people or, in German, transsexuals experience more acceptance than in countries with a different cultural background. Buddhism explains the difference of these people with the help of its faith. According to Buddhist belief, the reason for what is actually a rather twisted view and perception lies in the behavior and actions of a previous life. They aren't blamed for being different. It's the destiny of these people to lead such a life.
